Our little way to help dance teachers and their students...NO price increase!

Same rates as the 2007-2008 Dancers ROCK season.

COMPETITION DIVISIONS CATEGORIES, FEES and TIME LIMITS


DIVISIONS

Seniors: (ages 16+up)

Teens: (ages 13-15)

Tweens:  (ages 10-12)

Juniors:  (ages 7-9)

Minis: (ages 5-6)

Senior and Teen Competition Divisions combined in select cites.
Junior and Mini Competition Divisions combined in select cities.
Dancers under the age of 5 must receive a special invitation to compete from Dancers ROCK Management.


CATEGORIES
 
                  

Ballet:   consists of ballet or pointe technique, must include classical steps & movement.                            

Hip-Hop:  consists of fusion, street, funk, MTV style movements, no obscenities in music allowed

Jazz:  consists of jazz technique utilizing uptempo music 

Lyrical:  consists of jazz & ballet technique, demonstrating strength, control & interpretation

Musical Theatre:  consists of Broadway/theatre style movements

   Open:  consists of all other categories, acro/gymnastics, novelty, modern, etc…

   Photogenic:  picture of entrant showcasing beauty, commercial appeal & marketability, B&W or Color

   Pro-Am: consists of a dance teacher, studio owner or professional dancer performing any style of dance in a solo, duo/trio, group, line or production.

   Song & Dance: consists of dance movements and vocal performance, track must   not  have  lead vocals, harmonies OK

Tap:  consists of tap technique, classic, contemporary, stomp, etc...must wear tap shoes


FEES

Photogenic: $25

Solos: $65

Duo/Trio: $35 per dancer

Group: (4-9 dancers) $25 per dancer

Line: (10-19 dancers) $25 per dancer

Production:  (20+ dancers) $25 per dancer

TIME LIMITS

Solos: 2:45

Duo/Trio: 2:45

Group: 3:00

Line: 3:30

Production: 4:00


JUDGING CRITERIA 

Technique: 45 points

Choreography: 45 points

Showmanship:  30 Points
 
Interpretation: 15 points

Overall Appeal: 15 points


AWARDS

Platinum        141-150

High Gold     129-140

Gold             117-128

High Silver    105-116

Silver            93-104

Bronze          75-92

Performers are adjudicated for their performance.  And First Place will be awarded to high score performance when there are 2 or more routines in the same age division and category.


CASH AWARDS

Best Overall Performance per age division(s) : $100

Best Choreography: $100

Best Concept: $100

Entertainer Award: $100

Cash awards along with Special awards will be awarded on Sunday at the Showcase of STARS.

To be eligible for a cash award, you must receive a Platinum, High Gold or Gold award.
For cash awards to be awarded, there must be a minumum of 20 routines entered in the competition.

Ties will be broken by (1) the highest technique scores, then (2) Showmanship, then (3) Choreography.

To receive a cash award you must provide a federal tax ID number or Social Security number on your registration form. 

*NEW*Teachers/Studio owners may perform in a competition routine, but that routine will be for adjudication only.  Routine will NOT be eligible for High Score or Cash Prizes.

 


*All decisions of judges are final.  Judges reserve the right to change the competing dancers performance category if the number has been entered improperly. 

*NEW*Each studio will be permitted to enter 30 routines per Regional city. Additional routines will be permitted if time permits.  Studios will be contacted.  Studios are welcome to participate in more than one Dancers ROCK Regional Convention & Competition.  Entries accepted on a first come, first served basis.
 
*Teachers attend second city for free.  Students attend second city for 50% off convention fees.  Discount does not apply to competition fees or to Dancers ROCK Nationals 2010.  

*Dancers cannot compete against themselves in solos.They cannot compete against themselves in the same age division same category. 
*Duo/Trios can not compete against themselves in the same age division, same category. 

*All convention and competition fees are non-refundable, no exceptions. NO REFUNDS.

*Convention fees must be submitted in one studio check.  Competition fees must be submitted in one studio check.

*No Canadian checks accepted-bank money orders or US funds only.

*Make all checks payable to NY-LA-NASH Entertainment.

*Competing dancers must be registered at convention, ages 5+up only competing.

*To reach the average age of an entry, add all the ages together and divide by the number of dancers in the entry.  When an average ends in .5 or above,  you must round up to the next age.  Names and birthdates of all dancers must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted.  All competing dancers must be prepared to present proof of age should a question arise.  All ages are of the competition date.

 *The average age of each entry may not drop more than one age division below the age of the oldest dancer in the entry, regardless of the actual average age.  Example: If an entry contains dancers ranging from 7-16, the entry may not compete in the Junior category, it must compete in the Tween category.  (one division younger than the oldest dancer-16)

*National Finals competition average ages will be based on dancer's age at the regional competition.

*Each competition routine's music must be on a separate, high quality cd. Cd submitted must have studio name, title of routine and entry #.  Please have a back up cd for each entry.  All entries must be submitted during registration on Saturday morning.

*10 points will be deducted from entries that do not comply with the time limitations.  Time limits will be strictly enforced.

*All participants and observers agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship.  Unsportsmanlike conduct will result in disqualification.

*Performances that win cash awards are not allowed to compete at another Dancers ROCK regional.

*All routines must be appropriate family viewing.  Failure to do so will reflect in total score or may be disqualified at the discretion of the competition director and panel of judges. 

*All score sheets & critiques will be available for pickup Sunday at 12 noon. 

*Choreographers, teachers and performers automatically give their permission to NY-LA-NASH Entertainment and Dancers ROCK to use their likeness in photographs and videos for advertising and publicity purposes.

*Competition is open to the public,first come first served, and cannot be guaranteed.

*All fees are due with entry forms. 

*No photography or videotaping in dressing rooms.

*No videotaping and/or flash photography during competition.

*Any props exceeding 6 feet in height and/or an assembling time of 1 minute need special clearance.  Please contact 310.734.6924.

*Violation of any regulations may result in disqualification.
